Did you know, Flavia is a division of M&M Mars. Yep, the candy people! 🙂

No fair, right?  They have an advantage on great tastes just by that, but the secret to why Flavia is so great lies with their exclusive Flavia filterpack  brewing technology.  It’s not your typical coffee maker!   And is doesn’t use “coffee pods!”

Actually Flavia started long before the pods.  Having begun in the early 80’s, Flavia has perfected the single cup coffee in an awesome way.  Have you seen how the filterpack / freshpack works?  It’s super cool – no kidding – wish I had come up with it!

Basically, it’s a self-contained filter, coffee, funnel, and trash can – ALL IN ONE 🙂  The Flavia Drink Stations are the ONLY systems on the market that require almost no weekly cleaning.  It is the only one that doesn’t need daily cleaning.

See, every other coffee system – single cup or not – has some type of funnel to direct the coffee into your cup.  Inherently, this creates a direct contact area with the coffee or tea which must be cleaned daily like a regular coffee pot or you have a nasty mess.  In fact, every other system also causes flavor mixture between cups unless you clean them after every cup. But not Flavia!

I’ll post some before and after pics so you can see how cool the Flavia coffee freshpack is.  In a nutshell, the Flavia filterpack is completely sealed in a foil pack with a plastic spigot at the top and a vegetable oil sealed bottom to the foil.  Inside is a cloth filter near the bottom of the foil.  When the pack begins the brewing process, which is less than a minute, a needle punctures the plastic spigot to pump the piping hot water into the coffee (or tea) pack.  As it brews the finely ground coffee inside the pack, the bottom of the pack is steamed to allow the vegetable oil to loosen and open the bottom of the foil.  At that point, the filter inside begins to drop down just below the foil.  As pressure builds inside the pack, your coffee starts to pour through directly from the pack’s filter straight into your coffee cup just an inch or so below.  No funnel, no pot, No Mess!  It even blows air through the pack at the end of the process to push through any excess water so that the pack is not dripping.

In some models, the Flavia coffee brewers will even throw your used pack into a small trash can.  On smaller models, you simply throw the pack away and you’re done.  No mess, just start another cup of coffee, tea, cappuccino, mochaccino, etc.. as soon as you are ready.  No flavor mixture – this this with Any other system 🙂  They can’t.

Each part of this process is perfectly timed through the control board to produce the perfect cup of coffee.  There’s much more to the internal technology aspect, but you get the picture.  Not only is the quality great, but it’s easy too!
